Risa Poyo: Who is Kanae Sugiyama, aka Kana?

杉山佳那恵 is a OG who has been around since 2006! Featured in nearly every Gyaru magazine, promoted dozens of brands, launched her own and and still serving hot looks in 2021. I love her 💕

Kanae has long been an inspiration to me as she showed how brown hair and brows could be just as sexy as blonde styles, she is not afraid to be pale either or do a bold lip!

Kanae started her career as a Gyaru model around 2006, soon became an Ageha regular, moving up to Ane Ageha in 2013, and guest staring in many other magazines. Here are some (almost unrecognisable) 2008 photos I recovered from random fan blogs:

Since graduating to Ane Ageha there's been an impressive number of magazine covers, I own about half of these and now want the rest!

In 2016 she collaborated with Secret Key to create this hoody, I really wanted it but it sold out too fast 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Then in 2018 she launched her own brand Bloomin, it's casual but cool.

I really need to buy something from this brand! Maybe this for flying in?

I kinda expected something more glamorous but I respect how she wasn't afraid to take her own path! I also loved finding out that she had Ayumi Hamasaki attend her Birthday Party a couple of years ago and that outside of fashion she owns a kindergarten 😮😮

Some of the recent makeup looks have no lower shadow, or the liner in more of a cat eye flick, so some people may no longer consider it Gyaru, but I still love it.

Born in 1985 she is a year older than me so it feels OK to consider her an inspirational sempai compared to the younger gals and as long as she is still interested in the fashion I'll not be too old! 💨
